Repros Therapeutics gets FDA go-ahead on testosterone drug study

(Reuters) - Repros Therapeutics Inc said U.S. health regulators agreed with the company's plan to proceed with analyzing data from a late-stage study of its experimental testosterone drug Androxal, putting the company on track to report trial data in the third quarter.

Repros shares were up 30 percent at $13.22 before the bell on Thursday.

The company last month pushed back the expected date to report data from the first of two late-stage studies after it found that the patient population at a site where the drug was being tested was markedly different from 16 other sites.

Repros proposed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that patients from that site be removed from the study and be replaced by patients at other sites who were enrolled for the second late-stage study.

Repros said on Thursday that the FDA mostly agreed with its plan, but asked the company to evaluate data from the studies with and without patients from the site with the differing characteristics.

Barring this, the special protocol assessment under which Repros is developing Androxal remains intact, allaying concerns that the results from the studies would be delayed further.

The company's shares had fallen 45 percent since it proposed the changes to the study in late January.

Repros said at the time that it expected to report data from the first study in the third quarter and subsequently file for U.S. approval of the drug in mid-2014.

A special protocol assessment provides a company with a written agreement from the FDA that the design of the study and analysis of the data are adequate to support a marketing application.

Androxal is one of two Repros products in development. The other, Proellex, is being tested to treat uterine fibroids - noncancerous tumors that develop in the womb.

Androxal is expected to compete with AbbVie Inc's Androgel, Auxilium Pharmaceuticals Inc's Testim and Eli Lilly and Co's Axiron, all of which are already on the market.

Government backs Ofgem plans to make energy bills fairer

Ofgem said the reforms would begin to come into force this summer, while the cap on tariff numbers is planned to be in place from next winter.

Alistair Buchanan, Ofgem chief executive, said the proposals would see "the most radical shake-up of the energy retail market since competition began."

?My message to the suppliers is ? don't wait for the legal process to take effect. Most have already embraced the reform agenda and now the way is clear for all of them to work with Ofgem to bring in reforms as soon as possible.?

Angela Knight, chief executive of Energy UK, which represents energy companies, said: "The concerns of customers and politicians have been heard loud and clear by the companies [...] The industry will be working closely with the regulator and with Government on all the next stages of their reform programme.?

Mr Buchanan warned households this week to prepare for a sharp rise in energy bills within two years, as he said that British energy supplies are on a ?roller-coaster? heading ?downhill fast?,

Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Buchanan warned: ?We have to face the likelihood that avoiding power shortages will also carry a price.?

Stop focusing on the divorce and separations which are actually very minute compared to the statistics of the married and coupled. Marriage and relationships are not stable cos of faithfulness, there is more to marriage than sex and faithfulness. There is no normal faithfulness in this world, its either one is too broke to flirt, or too bound to religion or both. It is just natural to flirt, it is nature's command. I am happy to inform you that I can not be faithful, will never be and I am not expecting anyone else to be. This truth, sets me free, cos nothing will ever surprise me.

For most people, it really depends. Most cheat/are unfaithful because of two things 1.) they have the "balls" to do it . 2.) The opportunity has availed itself.
Most people who are faithful can be grouped into the "other" category i.e they have no choice or the opportunity hasn't availed itself.
The percentage of people who actually "choose" to be faithful, knowing they can get anyone out there is less than 0.00001%

The Lesser Evil

GYI0000573036.jpg

An MQ-9 Reaper drone at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs, Nev.

Ethan Miller

Here?s a fact that you didn?t hear at the confirmation hearings for John Brennan, Obama?s pick for next CIA chief, or from the administration?s white paper on drone killings: The international rules of warfare require nations to capture instead of kill enemy fighters, especially when lethal force is not the only way to take them off the battlefield.

The administration claims, in the white paper, to have conducted an exhaustive review of the laws of war, and to honor those standards. Its portrayal of the rules, however, is incomplete to the point of being wrong. The crucial assumption, which in all the analyses I?ve read hasn?t yet been challenged, is that in wartime a state can choose to kill rather than capture enemy fighters at its discretion. This is sheer fallacy, as a matter of current law and legal history. Correctly understanding?and respecting?the law in this area matters deeply for the choices U.S. Special Forces are told they can make when they hunt down a suspected terrorist. And it matters for what rules the United States sets in cooperation with its NATO allies.

If you listen to the administration?s version of the rulebook on drones, you might be led to believe that once someone is designated an enemy fighter, he can be killed anytime, anywhere?unless and until he surrenders. But the more you dig for a well-sustained defense of this idea by any expert on the law of war, the more you realize how weak it is.

Let?s look at the history. In 1625, the father of international law, Hugo Grotius, wrote that ?in general, killing is called a right of war? and that ?according to the law of nations, anyone who is an enemy may be attacked anywhere.? Grotius? approach remained operable through the American Revolution, Civil War, and the world wars in the first part of the 20th century

But the modern laws of war have come a long way since then. In 1967, one of the architects of the modern laws of war, the Swiss jurist Jean Pictet, stated that parties to a conflict should apply only so much force as necessary. He would later elaborate this principle in a simple maxim: ?If we can put a soldier out of action by capturing him we should not wound him, if we can obtain the same result by wounding him, we must not kill him, if there are two means to achieve the same military advantage we must choose the one which causes the lesser evil.? Make no mistake: That maxim does not require U.S. troops to endanger themselves to try to capture al-Qaida terrorists. The Pictet principle simply holds that if it is unnecessary to kill an individual to take them off the battlefield, capture must be the preferred option.

Pictet?s views repudiated the vision of the law that had dated back to Grotius. And they won the day: In 1973, a group that included leading intellectual figures of the time, such as Sweden?s Hans Blix and the Netherland?s Frits Kalshoven, adopted Pictet?s language essentially word-for-word as a fair reflection of existing law. Around the same time, the International Committee of the Red Cross examined the state of the law in an important report to world governments and stated concretely: ?The principle of humanity enjoins that capture is to be preferred to wounding, and wounding to killing.?

That period culminated in an international conference in Geneva in 1977, which famously established new treaties reflecting and updating the rules of warfare. The end result was a pact agreeing to a worldwide prohibition on ?superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering,? words that again mirrored Pictet?s maxim. And words that are now included in war manuals of the U.S. military.

The foundation of the White House?s position is, in the end, based on a historical relic. Nonetheless, this view has been accepted as mainstream in the United States: Even strong critics of the drone program have begun to mouth it. For example, a?recent critique of the Justice Department?s legal analysis accepts as a truism that ?unless he surrenders, a combatant can be killed regardless of activity.?

The disjuncture between the American conversation and the modern laws of wars even shows up in a recent discussion with the American political philosopher Michael Walzer. He indicated his strong support for the White House position, and stated that in ?asymmetric warfare, without a front, without soldiers in uniforms, targeted killing seems a necessary form of warfare?and justified if we get the targets right. Why does risk [to U.S. forces] make a difference?? Compare this, however to the High Court of Israel?s landmark judgment in 2005 on targeted killings. In a ruling that captures modern developments of international law, the Israeli judges stated that lethal forced must be abandoned when ?a less harmful means can be employed.? They explained that a key factor is whether such restraint involves ?a risk so great to the lives of the [Israeli] soldiers.?

A careful reading of law and modern history shows how wrong the White House position is. In law school, we teach that getting the law wrong can be as bad as ignoring it altogether. In this case, at least we still have a chance to get the law right.

A solution to sinusitis from the sea

Feb. 18, 2013 ? A team of scientists and surgeons from Newcastle are developing a new nasal spray from a marine microbe to help clear chronic sinusitis.

They are using an enzyme isolated from a marine bacterium Bacillus licheniformis found on the surface of seaweed which the scientists at Newcastle University were originally researching for the purpose of cleaning the hulls of ships.

Publishing? recently in PLOS ONE, they describe how in many cases of chronic sinusitis the bacteria form a biofilm, a slimy protective barrier which can protect them from sprays or antibiotics. In vitro experiments showed that the enzyme, called NucB dispersed 58% of biofilms.

Dr Nicholas Jakubovics of Newcastle University said: "In effect, the enzyme breaks down the extracellular DNA, which is acting like a glue to hold the cells to the surface of the sinuses. In the lab, NucB cleared over half of the organisms we tested."

Sinusitis with or without polyps is one of the most common reasons people go to their GP and affects more than 10% of adults in the UK and Europe. Mr Mohamed Reda Elbadawey, Consultant of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Freeman Hospital -- part of the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust -- was prompted to contact the Newcastle University researchers after a student patient mentioned a lecture on the discovery of NucB and they are now working together to explore its medical potential.

Mr Elbadawey said: "Sinusitis is all too common and a huge burden on the NHS. For many people, symptoms include a blocked nose, nasal discharge or congestion, recurrent headaches, loss of the sense of smell and facial pain. While steroid nasal sprays and antibiotics can help some people, for the patients I see, they have not been effective and these patients have to undergo the stress of surgery. If we can develop an alternative we could benefit thousands of patients a year."

In the research, the team collected mucous and sinus biopsy samples from 20 different patients and isolated between two and six different species of bacteria from each individual. 24 different strains were investigated in the laboratory and all produced biofilms containing significant amounts of extracellular DNA. Biofilms formed by 14 strains were disrupted by treatment with the novel bacterial deoxyribonuclease, NucB.

When under threat, bacteria shield themselves in a slimy protective barrier. This slimy layer, known as a biofilm, is made up of bacteria held together by a web of extracellular DNA which adheres the bacteria to each other and to a solid surface -- in this case in the lining of the sinuses. The biofilm protects the bacteria from attack by antibiotics and makes it very difficult to clear them from the sinuses.

In previous studies of the marine bacterium Bacillus licheniformis, Newcastle University scientists led by marine microbiologist Professor Grant Burgess found that when the bacteria want to move on, they release an enzyme which breaks down the external DNA, breaking up the biofilm and releasing the bacteria from the web. When the enzyme NucB was purified and added to other biofilms it quickly dissolved the slime exposing the bacterial cells, leaving them vulnerable.

The team's next step is to further test and develop the product and they are looking to set up collaboration with industry.

Parents Are the Solution, Not the Problem | Sunrise Marian Distribution

Father and Mother Really Do Know Best

By Denise Hunnell, MD

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 13, 2013 (Zenit.org) ? In days gone by, government policies and state institutions deferred to parents as the ultimate authority on what was best for their children. In recent years, however, parents? concerns are increasingly downplayed as government bureaucrats?, teachers?, and health care providers? roles have expanded. Those whose ?expertise? seems to be invoked more and more, often in ways that encroach on areas of concern traditionally given to parents, range from global entities such as the United Nations to the local physician in her office down the road.

The United Nations has proposed two treaties,?The Convention on the Rights of the Child?and the?Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, both of which place the authority of the state over that of parents in the determination of what are the best interests of children. Concerns about such infringement on parental rights have hampered ratification of these treaties in the United States, though these treaties seem to be gaining greater traction among some US politicians.

When it comes to education, Germany, Sweden and much of Eastern Europe and South America have outlawed homeschooling completely. Many other countries such as Austria and Iceland have placed burdensome restrictions on the practice. These countries refuse to give up control of the content of education and trust parents to teach their children. Much of this fear likely stems from the religious nature of many home educational programs and the refusal of homeschooling parents to engage in social indoctrination that is well under way at public and many private schools. This indoctrination often includes the normalization of homosexuality, explicit sex education, and endorsement of contraceptives and abortion.

A?European Human Rights Court?affirmed the German ban on homeschooling, saying that Germany has a valid state interest in preventing dissent from those who hold ?separate philosophical convictions.? In the United States, Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California Irvine School of Law,?recently proposed in a speech?at the annual meeting of the American Association of Law Schools that not only homeschooling, but all private schooling, should be made illegal. He claims that the right of parents to control the upbringing of their children is not absolute and can be overridden for the good of the state.

In the medical arena, health care providers also often view parents as superfluous once children become adolescents. Most young girls may gain access to contraceptives and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases without parental knowledge or consent. Fewer than half of the states in the United States require parental consent for abortion. Further, in doctors? offices around the country, physicians are isolating adolescents from their parents.?A recent review article?on adolescent health care in the?American Family Physician, the flagship journal for the American Academy of Family Physicians, emphasized the importance of excluding parents from adolescent health care decisions in order to foster more effective communication between physicians and adolescent patients.

But what does objective scientific analysis say about the marginalization of parents when it comes to the education, health care, and general well-being of children??A study by Brian Ray?of the National Home Education Research Institute looked at 11,739 homeschooled students in all 50 states. He found that the homeschooled students scored on average nearly 40 percentile points higher on standardized achievement tests when compared to students in public schools. They were ranked in the 88th percentile in the core subjects of reading, language, and math compared to the 50th percentile for the average public school student. These results were independent of the education level and socioeconomic status of the parents. Equally impressive is the fact that homeschoolers spent roughly 5% of what the public schools spend annually per student.

There are also problems with the widespread assumption that explicit sex education programs are in the best interests of students. In April 2007, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. (MPR) released?an often-cited study?on the effectiveness of abstinence education programs. They found that abstinence education programs offered no improvement in teenage pregnancy rates or in the understanding of teens for the potential negative consequences of sex. This report was widely touted as proof that abstinence education does not work and should not be funded. What goes unmentioned in the media analysis of this report, however, is that the study control groups received the standard ?safe-sex? education that is common in many school districts. There was essentially no difference in the results for students given information on the avoidance of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and those who were encouraged to abstain from sex. Neither type of program worked.

A reasonable interpretation of the failure of both abstinence education and ?safe-sex? education can be gleaned when the characteristics of the study population are analyzed. From the MPR study:

Youth in the study sample come from backgrounds that put them at relatively high risk of having sexual intercourse at an early age.? With the exception of?My Choice, My Future!,?[one of the studied abstinence education programs] one-third or fewer of the sample youth in each site reported at baseline having parents who were married. They also reported relatively high rates of life stressors, such as sisters getting pregnant or siblings dropping out of school.? Moreover, although almost all youth reported that they had a mother figure (95 percent), only four out of every five youth in the?Recapturing the Vision?and?FUPTP?[one of the studied abstinence education programs] samples reported having a father figure.

The family environments of the study participants were so dysfunctional and so conducive to risky sexual behavior that no outside intervention, however well intentioned or well designed, was going to have much impact. Contrary to the conclusions reached in the media, this report is not an indictment of abstinence education. It merely shows that family stability at home matters more than school programs.

David Paton reached much the same conclusion in his recent study of teenage pregnancy and abortions in England and Wales.?He writes?in the September 2012 issue of the journal?Education and Health?that in spite of the fact that millions of pounds have been poured into public policy initiatives for comprehensive school-based sex education, there has been virtually no change in the rate of teenage pregnancies. He points to studies showing that mandatory parental involvement abortion laws reduce the number of teen abortions, reduce teen sexually transmitted diseases, and even improve teenage mental health. He cites?work by Sabia & Rees?that showed a 15% to 25% decrease in suicide by adolescent females after the enactment of mandatory parental involvement abortion laws. Paton then concludes that rather than focusing efforts on teens in isolation from their families, public initiatives should stress the inclusion of parents in any solution.

In Aldous Huxley?s prophetic?Brave New World, parental involvement with their offspring is considered primitive and quaint. A central government takes full control of raising children and the concept of families is destroyed. Huxley?s dystopic vision is now reality: For nearly five decades governments, schools, and medical institutions have attempted to follow this same path by increasingly usurping the roles of parents in the care, education and moral formation of children. The results have been abysmal. It is time to bring parents back into the picture. State policies and institutions should support, encourage, and empower parents and bolster the family. Bureaucrats should get out of the way and let parents be parents. Father and Mother really do know best.

Correct me if I am wrong (and I am sure someone will), but wouldn't this apply only if you use the "Send via biteSMS Method" instead of "Send via Carrier Method". AND, I would bet if you read your Verizon, or AT&T, or T-Mpbile, or ???, EULA it would have a pretty similar clause.

IMHO, anybody who sends anything via email or SMS and thinks it is totally private, never can be seen by anybody other than who one intends, has been badly deceived.

I think that's less of a texting policy and
    More of a theming policy.
On your device the texts you send to and from aren't going through bite*
    Unless your using bites service.
But if you develop a theme and submit it to bite, or you develop a "fix" or better method In the coding and send it to bite they re saying they can legally claim it.
Which judging by all the themes in cydia, they haven't done.
But they could. I think it's a standard in all user agreements.

That makes better sense. And standard. If you use our product, even if you make changes to it, we still own the rights to the product.

Losing hope of a good night's sleep is risk factor for suicide

Feb. 14, 2013 ? When people lose hope that they will ever get another good night's sleep, they become at high risk for suicide, researchers report.

Insomnia and nightmares, which are often confused and may go hand-in-hand, are known risk factors for suicide but just how they contribute was unknown, said Dr. W. Vaughn McCall, Chair of the Medical College of Georgia Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at Georgia Regents University.

The new study reaffirms that link and adds the element of hopelessness about sleep that is independent of other types of hopelessness, such as those regarding personal relationships and careers, said McCall, corresponding author of the study in Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, the journal of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

"It turns out insomnia can lead to a very specific type of hopelessness and hopelessness by itself is a powerful predictor of suicide," he said. "It's fascinating because what it tells you is we have discovered a new predictor for suicidal thinking."

If the findings hold true in larger studies, they wave a red flag about suicide risk and point toward prevention that targets the negative thoughts with pharmaceuticals and psychological intervention.

The finding also is a reminder to physicians that depressed patients who report increased sleep problems should be asked if they are having suicidal thoughts, McCall said.

The scientists used psychometric testing to objectively assess the mental state of 50 depressed patients age 20-80 being treated as an inpatient, outpatient or in the Emergency Department. More than half had attempted suicide and most were taking an anti-depressant. Testing enabled the researchers to filter out other suicide risks such as depression itself and hone in on the relationship between insomnia and suicide risk, asking specific questions about dysfunctional beliefs about sleep such as: Do you think you will ever sleep again?

"It was this dysfunctional thinking, all these negative thoughts about sleep that was the mediating factor that explained why insomnia was linked to suicide," said McCall, who specializes in depression and sleep disorders.

He's seen insomnia patients spiral downward with increasingly negative and unrealistic thoughts about not sleeping, thinking, for example, that their immune system is being irrevocably damaged. McCall challenges such negatives from his patients and asks other doctors to consider doing the same: to disagree, strongly stating there is no scientific evidence for the thoughts but there is hope and help. "People have choices," he said.

Once insomnia has been diagnosed, some fairly rigid guidelines can help turn the exhausting and potentially deadly tide, including:

  • Wake up at the same time every day no matter when you go to bed
  • Not going to bed until you are sleepy
  • Eliminating caffeine, known to stay in your system up to 15 hours
  • Eliminating alcoholic beverages or tobacco products
  • Complete cardiovascular exercise at least four hours before bedtime
  • Allowing ample time to digest a meal before heading to bed.

The likelihood of being suicidal at least doubles with insomnia as a symptom, McCall noted.

"If you talk with depressed people, they really feel like they have failed at so many things. It goes something like, 'My marriage is a mess, I hate my job, I can't communicate with my kids, I can't even sleep.' There is a sense of failure and hopelessness that now runs from top to bottom and this is one more thing," McCall said.

Opportunity Seeker or? ? - Certified Fitness Nursing

Are you an Opportunity Seeker or a Strategic Entrepreneur?

?I first heard this question from Alex Mandossian, an information marketer, who?s brilliant in how he makes complex things so simple.

Chances are you are the former. ?I suppose, we all are opportunity seekers at some point.

What opportunity are you seeking?

  • Are you looking for a fitness opportunity in Nursing?
  • Are you looking for a nursing opportunity in Fitness?
  • Are you looking to create your own opportunity?

Well good luck in your search.
In my search, over 20 years, for either? I found that they don?t exist. ?

Well I did teach exercise for a health resources department, in a hospital system, as a nurse, at a nurses? rate. But it was short-lived. ?Someone realized that fitness trainers could do it for half my pay. ?I then continued to give lectures and do public health screenings. ?(It was still a decent job)?

How about the first one:

Well, remember in nursing school when everything was crammed into such a strategic time allotment. ?The most that we were taught about exercise was an ?activity deficit?, how loss of mobility is a key factor in your patients going down hill, R.O.M., body mechanics and maybe the government recommendations. ?Any more studying than that, was probably done on your own. ?Nursing just doesn?t have the space or place for teaching nurses how to teach patients how to exercise. Besides in a clinical setting, there are physical therapists who are great at knowing the ?ins and outs? of exercise. Doctors would recommend patients to them. But then again, patients who are able to actually exercise, besides cardiac rehab, wouldn?t be in the hospital (insurance wouldn?t cover this). So for now anyway, there is no opportunity for you to work as a nurse/fitness trainer in Nursing (clinical setting). ??

How about the second one:

How about working in a gym or a club? ?Sure you can be a nurse who, actually does ?nurse? skills, like take blood pressure and do other screenings in a club or a gym? for $12.00 an hour. ?To be a nurse who specializes in fitness at a gym or club (in fitness) is what many of you may do now. ?You may get paid pretty well. Are your clients coming to you because you?re a nurse with a specialty in fitness or because your a good exercise instructor? ?There are a few of you who specifically have clients who come to see you because you are a nurse? fantastic. ?Are you getting paid for that? ?Or are you getting paid the same as the exercise instructor who has a weekend certification? ?Is there a distinction in your service? Does anybody really care???Are people coming to the class, gym or club to see a nurse?

How about the third one:

This is the one that I have decided to go with. ?An opportunity is what you make it, right? ?I think it?s how you see it. ?Many of you may feel that creating your own opportunity is NOT an opportunity at all. ?It?s a hassle. ?A risk. ?A territory that hasn?t been explored yet and ?let someone else explore it first; then I?ll try it? maybe?. ?What about making money and supporting yourself? ?There?s no guarantee that you will make any money creating your own opportunity. ?I know. ?I hear your concerns. ?But I still feel that someone has to try. ?That someone? be me! ?I realize that I have to create more social proof. ?And it?s what I intend to do!

I?m not alone in my quest for creating social proof and my own opportunity as a Fitness Nurse Consultant? and Certified Fitness Nurse? Coach (which is what I call myself, without anyone?s permission). There are a few courageous nurses who are making their own opportunity too. ?We are trying to become Strategic Entrepreneurs; not just Opportunity Seekers any longer. ?We?re not spending most of our time looking for an an established opportunity that doesn?t exist in the ?job market? or doing one thing one time or getting more initials to put behind our name thinking that?s the problem (when it isn?t) or giving an exercise class and then say, ?see you next week? ?maybe you won?t see them next week. ?There?s NO long term commitment there. ?We?re creating our own opportunity strategically.

What we need to do as a Strategic Entrepreneur:

  1. Decide why we want to combine our nursing skills with our fitness training and whom best we can help by doing this and where they are. Their ?hubs?.
  2. Decide what we are best at when delivering information/instruction to others. ?Do we like to talk, to write, to entertain (have company over), go to social events, to be on the computer (social media), etc.? ?This will help us decide the way we will market our services, without dread.?
  3. We decide what we want our ideal client to do when they come into contact with us personally, visit our blog, face book page, read an article, etc. ?This usually is not to directly ?buy? something from us. ?But to get a ?FREE? publication, tips, recording, whatever interests them. ?We know that we need to build relationships, to build trust and very importantly to build an email list of interested people, who we keep in contact with at least 2X a month. ?Eventually, we also offer teleseminars and explore new ways of getting ?out there?, like on Google+ (It?s free). ?President Obama just had a ?Fireside Chat? on Google+ last week. ?It?s catching on.
  4. We become a celebrity in ?our own backyard? as the only Fitness Nurse Consultant? (FNC) or Certified Fitness Nurse? Coach (CFNC) in our local area. ?Remember to become a ?Trusted Authority? in your local area, all you need is a core competence that you can improve someone?s health and solve their problem and more importantly, the confidence to carry out that improvement and to start solving their problem.
And on the internet we link all of our social media to work together and organize a 3-month calendar of specific topics and sub-topics that our ideal clients want and will love. ?This also frees up our time and we?re not scatter-brain about what to write about and we?re not chasing clients or hoping they?ll show up.
  • I suggest that you start with a ?study? that you are doing. ?When I first started I offered a study on the effects of working out with a puppy around. It turned out that many of the participants came and brought their child or grandchild who was occupied with PangPang, my pug, a puppy at this time, while they (my clients) worked out. ? ?They didn?t come before because they didn?t want the child to ?just sit there? and watch them. ?So, having the puppy there increased their exercise adherence. ?Pretty cool, huh? ?Clients still ask about PangPang today. ?
  • Or you could offer a tasting of a type of food that you like to use in your program, and invite 5-6 people over. ?Offer stuff that people would leave their house for. ?Like free, delicious food. ?Send invitations, well in advance, with pictures of what you will serve and the point of the ?get together?. ?Like I said earlier, what do you want the ?get-together? to accomplish? ?Always have ?the end result? in mind. ?Just a side note? just information, regardless how good it is, is usually not good enough to get people to leave their house. ?Oh, you can also go to someone else?s house or be more formal and rent a small, cheap place with a kitchen, if having food (highly recommended), like a firehouse hall.
  • I?ve just decided to start a meet-up in my local area more focused on my private FNC practice. The local fitness nurse meet-up, that I just canceled, never worked because there aren?t any local fitness nurses in my area who would show up. ?(Nurses who found the meet-up in a Google search, looking for an opportunity. ?Some might have been very interested, but who lived 2,000 miles away. ?Meet-ups are for just that? meeting up.)It?s best to grow my FNC practice and introduce one of the 4 non-negotiables I teach as a CFNC, it will also be the title of the meet-up. ?One of my clients is helping me with it. ?I?m so excited to get it going. ?I?ll announce it soon. ?If you live near the Jersey Shore, Asbury Park area, I hope you will join the meet-up! ?This way, not only will people who sign up want to try one of my delicious meals you can have on my plan, I introduce them to the philosophy behind eating this way. ? They can also share their concerns about previous diets and taking medications. ?I, of course, have and create conversations about all the health benefits, how easy it is and saves them money. ?Over time relationships develop and referrals come easier. ?No selling at the meet-up.
  • ??????????????????????????-
To be transparent with you, Kevin Ross, RN, BSN and I are starting next week with our 6-month VIP Mentorship for Fitness Nurse Consulting. ?We have decided to work with one nurse at a time. After all, each of you are different with different goal, gifts and dreams. ?The application and admission is ongoing. ?(The actual mentorship is really just over 4 months we put in breaks throughout the program). ?We want to build relationships with the nurses we assist. ?We are committed to them and they are committed to us and to becoming a strategic entrepreneur (lasting), not an opportunity seeker (fleeting). ?If you are interested in more information on our 6-month VIP Mentorship just go to www.fitnessnurseconsulting.com. ?You can also watch a recorded webinar there, that is required, before you fill out and send in the application.
  • I?ll save you some effort if you are going there, looking for a price. ?You get the price when you speak to me personally, after you listen to the recorded webinar and send in your application. ?This done for a reason. ?If you are an ideal client for us, and there?s a fit, we will work with you. ?If you are just shopping price, then there are many other coaching programs out there for you to choose price over. ?

The nurses who follow the instructions, make the effort and are sincere in doing what only a few courageous nurses are doing today, will understand that this is very much a part of what you need to become a strategic entrepreneur? create systems, a plan, delayed gratification. ?This skill is something you also are taught when it comes to pricing for your own services at a fee that you deserve and will get from your ideal clients too.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The White House is circulating a draft immigration bill that would create a new visa for illegal immigrants living in the United States and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years, according to a report published online Saturday by USA Today.

President Barack Obama's bill would create a "Lawful Prospective Immigrant" visa for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. The bill includes more security funding and requires business owners to adopt a system for verifying the immigration status of new hires within four years, the newspaper said.

USA Today reported that the bill would require that immigrants pass a criminal background check, submit biometric information and pay fees to qualify for the new visa. Immigrants who served more than a year in prison for a criminal conviction or were convicted of three or more crimes and were sentenced to a total of 90 days in jail would not be eligible. Crimes committed in other countries that would bar immigrants from legally entering the country would also be ineligible.

Those immigrants facing deportation would be eligible to apply for the visa, the newspaper reported. Immigrants would be eligible to apply for a green card within eight years, if they learn English and U.S. history and government, and they would later be eligible to become U.S. citizens.

Last month a bipartisan group of senators announced they had agreed on the general outline of an immigration plan. For his part, Obama has said he would not submit his own legislation to Congress so long as law makers acted "in a timely manner." If they failed, he said, "I will send up a bill based on my proposal and insist that they vote on it right away."

Clark Stevens, a White House spokesman, said Saturday that Obama still supports a bipartisan effort to craft a comprehensive immigration bill. "While the president has made clear he will move forward if Congress fails to act, progress continues to be made and the administration has not prepared a final bill to submit," he said in a statement.

Sen. Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican who has been crafting immigration legislation, derided the draft bill as described by the newspaper as "half-baked and seriously flawed" and said it was disappointing because it repeats what he called failures of past legislation. He also said the White House had erred in not seeking input from Republican lawmakers.

"If actually proposed, the president's bill would be dead on arrival in Congress, leaving us with unsecured borders and a broken legal immigration system for years to come," Rubio said in a statement.

Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, described the draft bill as a "very moderate" proposal. While the path to citizenship was welcomed by Noorani, he said not enough attention was being paid to future immigration.

"Commonsense immigration reform must include a functioning immigration system for the future," Noorani said in a statement. "Reform does not begin and end with citizenship and enforcement alone."

Bill AB266 could extend HOV lane access for green cars by 10 years in California

Flickr/CC BY 2.0

One of the most sought after incentives for green(er) cars in California are the white, green and yellow stickers that give access to the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane even if you don't have the required number of passengers. The yellow sticks (shown above) that were once given to the most fuel-efficient hybrids expired in 2011, but the white stickers for electric, natural gas, and hydrogen vehicles are still offered, though time is running out. If nothing is done, the program will expire on January 1, 2015, and then it's "bye bye" carpool lane.

California Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield doesn't want to see that happen. He introduced a bill called AB266 that would extend by 10 years the duration of the HOV sticker program to January 1, 2025.

Flickr/CC BY 3.0

Green Car Reports writes:

Under the current program, "white" stickers are given to zero-emission vehicles that include all battery electric vehicles as well as natural-gas and hydrogen powered vehicles, while "green" stickers are given to plug-in hybrids and range-extended electric cars that have both battery propulsion and a gasoline engine.

This extension would be a relatively low-cost way for California to not only improve the state's vehicle fleet, but also to help the development of green(er) vehicles. The hardest thing with a new technology is to get through the early low-volume high-price phase; once that's over, you get economies of scale and incremental technological improvements to help you reduce cost, which means that a lot more people can afford to buy your products. By making plug-ins more attractive to Californians, this would help the whole industry keep moving toward EV and PHEVs that are more affordable and better -- battery technology will no doubt keep improving, as will power electronics and software, and fast-charging stations will pop all over, making even long trips easy.
