An Italian supreme court overturned the acquittal of Amanda Knox on Tuesday, ordering a review that could result in demanding the 25-year-old to return to Florence to stand trial again for the 2007 murder of her roommate.

Legal experts say there's little Italy can do to force Knox, who lives in Seattle, to return for the new hearings, and Knox's lawyers says there's no reason she would agree to do so.

?Merely because they have sent it back for revision does not mean that anything else will happen," Theodore Simon, one of Knox's lawyers, said in an interview with the "Today" show. "They will review it. They may simply affirm that there was a ?not guilty? before and it should remain the same. They may seek to take some further evidence, but nothing has really changed.?

Italian law cannot compel Knox to return to Italy for a new trial, although a court could declare her in contempt if she refuses to appear. But even if that happens, the contempt charge carries no additional penalties, the Associated Press said.

"If the court orders another trial, if she is convicted at that trial and if the conviction is upheld by the highest court, then Italy could seek her extradition," Carlo Dalla Vedova, another lawyer for Knox, told news service. In that scenario, the United States would have to agree to extradite her.

That would seem unlikely since it violates the U.S. legal principle of double jeopardy preventing someone from being tried twice for the same crime. But Vedova told the New York Times it does not apply in this case because there had been no final ruling.

It is unclear what would happen if she were convicted and sentenced to further prison time. It is possible Italy could seek her extradition, or that U.S. and Italian authorities could come to a deal that would keep her in the United States.

The new hearings will be held at an appellate court in Florence sometime later this year or early next, the Italian court said.

In a statement released Tuesday, Knox called the court's decision "painful" since "the prosecution's theory of my involvement in Meredith's murder has been repeatedly revealed to be completely unfounded and unfair."

In 2011, Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, her former boyfriend, were acquitted in the murder of Meredith Kercher, a British student who was found dead in the Perugia, Umbria, apartment she shared with Knox, half naked with her throat slashed. Knox and Sollecito each spent four years in prison before the acquittal.

"The prosecution responsible for the many discrepancies in their work must be made to answer for them, for Raffaele's sake, my sake, and most especially for the sake of Meredith's family," Knox said. "Our hearts go out to them. No matter what happens, my family and I will face this continuing legal battle as we always have, confident in the truth and with our heads held high in the face of wrongful accusations and unreasonable adversity."

Knox's book about the case?"Waiting to Be Heard"?is due to be released next month.

Union: Hawaii teachers vote on contract in April

HONOLULU (AP) -- Hawaii's teachers union has set an April 17 date to vote on a new contract.

The vote comes after a tentative deal was reached over the weekend between the Hawaii State Teachers Association and the state.

Union officials said on the association's Facebook page early Monday that before the vote, teachers will be able to review the contract and ask questions at information sessions before the final vote.

The union also posted a link to the 106-page agreement.

The teachers' last contract expired in June 2011.

Teachers voted down a contract offer in January last year, then tried to pressure the state to accepting it later by voting on it again and passing it.

The sides sought the help of a federal mediator this month.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ? The Colorado prisons chief who was gunned down as he answered his front door is being remembered at a memorial service.

The service for Tom Clements, 58, is set for Monday morning at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

The director of the Colorado Department of Corrections was killed at his home Tuesday night in Monument, north of Colorado Springs.

A private funeral was held for him Sunday. He is survived by a wife and two daughters.

Evan Spencer Ebel, killed in a gunfight with Texas authorities Thursday, is a suspect.

Colorado authorities say evidence gathered in Texas provided a strong lead in the case but stressed investigators had not yet confirmed a link between the crime and Ebel.

Authorities say the car Ebel had in Texas was similar to one seen not far from Clements' home the night he was killed, and bullets Ebel fired at Texas police were the same caliber and brand as the bullet or bullets that killed Clements.

Ballistics tests are due sometime this week.

It remained unclear whether Clements was targeted when he was shot and why.

Officials say Ebel had been a member of the 211s, a white supremacist prison gang in Colorado. El Paso County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer says investigators are trying to determine whether the 211 gang was involved in the killing.

Denver police say Ebel is also a suspect in the March 17 slaying of pizza delivery man Nathan Leon.

Gov. John Hickenlooper, who hired Clements, has said that he is a longtime friend of the suspect's father, attorney Jack Ebel, who testified two years ago before state lawmakers that solitary confinement was destroying his son's psyche.

Hickenlooper confirmed he mentioned the case to Clements as an example of why the prison system needed reform before the job was offered, but the governor said he did not mention Evan Ebel by name.

There was no indication that Hickenlooper's relationship with the Jack Ebel played a role in the shooting. Hickenlooper said he did not having any role in Evan Ebel's parole in January.

Jack Ebel issued a statement offering condolences to all those who have suffered from his son's actions.

"I ask for privacy for me and my family during this time as we grieve for the loss of life that has occurred and for all those affected," he said.

Officials took additional security measures after Clements' death and placed the state prisons on lockdown Friday.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) ? Khalif Wyatt patted his chest twice, acknowledging that his incredible game wasn't going to be quite enough. Across the court, the Hoosiers' heartbeats could finally slow down.

No. 1 Indiana had barely escaped the big upset.

The Hoosiers finally figured out a way to stop Wyatt ? bump him, shadow him, deny him the ball ? and used a closing 10-0 run to beat Temple 58-52 on Sunday at the University of Dayton Arena, sending them into the round of 16 for the second year in a row.

"That was a relief," Indiana coach Tom Crean said.

Tell Ohio State about it.

The second-seeded Buckeyes also advanced with a pulsating finish, beating Iowa State 78-75 on Aaron Craft's 3-pointer with a half-second left. Ohio State is in the round of 16 for a school-record fourth year in a row, the last high seed remaining in the tournament's most busted bracket ? the Wild West.

"The moment is definitely bigger than me," said Craft, who won it with his only 3-pointer of the game.

Now, the two Big Ten heavyweights go their separate ways. Indiana (29-6) heads to the East Regional to play fourth-seeded Syracuse on Thursday in a rematch of the 1987 title game won by the Hoosiers. Ohio State (28-7) goes to Los Angeles to play sixth-seeded Arizona in the West Regional, which is missing four of its top five seeds.

Ohio State was the lone one to make it past the opening weekend.

"With all that's gone on in college basketball, anything's possible," Craft said. "You can see it with what's gone on in our bracket right now."

Here's what's gone on: No. 3 New Mexico, No. 4 Kansas State and No. 5 Wisconsin were knocked out in their opening games, and No. 1 Gonzaga joined them Saturday night, shocked by ninth-seeded Wichita State 76-70.

Tenth-seeded Iowa State (23-12) tried to make it a clean sweep at the top. The Cyclones trailed for most of the second half and were down by 13 with 6 minutes to go. They caught up with a pair of 3s, a three-point play and some missed free throws by Craft, who also was off-target on a jumper from just inside the arc with 29.9 seconds left.

The Cyclones dominated in rebounds 36-22 but couldn't get that last one, knocking the ball out of bounds after Craft's miss. Ohio State was looking to get the ball to leading scorer Deshaun Thomas for the final shot, but Iowa State switched defenses and left Craft with only one option as the clock ticked down.

The point guard dribbled in place at the top of the key until only a few seconds remained, then shot it over 6-foot-7 freshman Georges Niang.

"Every kid dreams of moments like that," Craft said.

The Cyclones had a tough time coming to terms with the ending. The nation's best 3-point team was beaten by one.

"We played our hearts out," said Will Clyburn, who scored 17 points. "It was a tough game and he made a tough shot. He made a great play."

The Atlantic 10's top scorer made a bunch of great plays in the second game, bringing Temple (24-10) to the verge of a huge upset. Wyatt scored 20 points in the first half even though the Hoosiers made him the focal point of their defense. He finished with 31, two days after also scoring 31 in a win over North Carolina State despite hurting his left thumb.

Victor Oladipo got the job of shutting him down in the final minutes, and pulled it off by staying as close to him as possible wherever he went.

"In the last 6 minutes, they started face-guarding me full-court," Wyatt said. "It was hard for me to get the ball. When I did get the ball, I made a couple nice plays, but they just made it difficult to get the ball."

Wyatt missed a long 3-pointer as the game started to slip away, and Oladipo hit a 3 with 14 seconds left that finished it off and gave the Hoosiers their first chance to relax all game.

"I was just kind of filled with emotion," Oladipo said.

So was Wyatt.

"He did a wonderful, wonderful job," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said. "It would have been great for our team to win and celebrate this a little bit."

Karl Rove On Gay Marriage: 'I Could' See A GOP Candidate Supporting It In 2016 (VIDEO)

Count Republican strategist Karl Rove among the folks who see a possible GOP evolution on gay marriage.

In an appearance on Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week," Rove was asked by host George Stephanopoulos whether he could "imagine" the next GOP presidential candidate saying they are flat out for gay marriage.

"I could," Rove said.

Some Republican strategists are not convinced change will happen that quickly. John Weaver, manager of former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman's 2012 presidential run, told HuffPost last week that four years from now is too soon.

"Will we have a candidate who gets there?," Weaver asked. "Yes. Will it be in 2016? No."

On the flip side, one Republican voice believes the marker has already been crossed. Stu Stevens, a senior adviser for 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, told HuffPost Monday that Dick Cheney's role as George W. Bush's running mate fulfilled "that moment." Cheney's daughter Mary is a lesbian.

"I mean, for heaven's sake, Cheney was on stage at the RNC Convention with Heather and Mary, and on the front page of The New York Times, Heather was referred to as Mary Cheney's 'friend,'" Stevens said. "It's not just about the Republican Party, it's about the culture."

The GOP's position on gay marriage rose to the forefront of March's political conversation when Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) revealed that he reversed his stance on same-sex marriage. Portman's son, Will, is gay -- a personal relationship that propelled the senator to change his view.

"It allowed me to think of this issue from a new perspective, and that's of a Dad who loves his son a lot and wants him to have the same opportunities that his brother and sister would have -- to have a relationship like Jane and I have had for over 26 years," Portman told Ohio newspapers.

Other Republicans have vowed their beliefs will not change. In an interview last Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press," House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) reinforced that he believes marriage is a union between a man and a woman.

"I can't imagine that position would ever change," Boehner said.

On Thursday, retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) mirrored Boehner's perspective, telling Politico "I'm not gay. So I'm not going to marry one."

Church celebrates Palm Sunday at elementary school after fire

CLEARFIELD ? The gymnasium of Wasatch Elementary School transformed into a temporary place of worship during a Palm Sunday service unlike any other the Clearfield Community Church has seen.

March 19, the congregation's historic church building burned down. Since then, they have been reeling at the loss, while still counting their blessings.

"We were not able to have any palms delivered this week because there was no place to deliver them," said Pastor John Parsley. "And we had some palms made with scissors by the children weeks ago and they were lost in the fire."

Members of the Clearfield Community Church said Sunday that even though they don't have a church in which to meet, the spirit of the service was the same.

There are a lot of memories in the building, now blackened by smoke and fire.

"My children were all baptized here," said Kathy Russell. "I was married here. My children were married here."

Some even put their own efforts into the bulding, contributing labor and art.

"I did a lot of the stained glass in the church and it's all gone," said Ed Isler.

Clearfield mayor Don Wood and fire Chief Mike Becraft came out to support this displaced congregation and answer questions at Sunday's service. Becraft said that it was likely an old computer monitor that started the blaze.

"A possible short," he said. "I can't say exactly what was in the display, but that was the energy source they determined started the fire."

Fire fighters who worked to end the blaze were welcomed with a standing ovation.

While the congregation is sad, church members said they are focusing on the silver lining.

"There were people here that haven't been to church for years," said attendee Chris Rebmann.

"We'll rebuild and be stronger than ever and closer than ever," he said.

Parsely said it will probably take between eighteen months and two years to clean out and rebuild their church. For the time being, they plan to continue holding their Sunday services at Wasatch Elementary.

Israeli military responds to fire from Syria

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israel's military says its forces responded to fire from Syria, shooting toward a target across the border.

The military says its soldiers were on routine patrol in the Golan Heights Sunday when they were fired upon. The military did not say what ammunition was fired on either side.

A military spokesman says the soldiers responded with "accurate fire toward the Syrian post from which they were fired upon." He could not say whether regular Syrian forces or rebels fired. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Syrian rebels have been moving on and capturing Syrian territory at the foot of the Golan over the past week. Israel captured the strategic plateau from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war.

Winning $338M Powerball jackpot ticket sold in NJ

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) ? A single ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Saturday night's drawing for the $338.3 million Powerball jackpot, lottery officials said. It was the 13th drawing held in the days since a Virginia man won a $217 million jackpot Feb. 6.

Thirteen other tickets worth $1 million each matched all but the final Powerball number on Saturday night. Those tickets were sold in New Jersey and 10 other states. Lottery officials said there was also one Power Play Match 5 winner in Iowa.

The New Jersey Lottery said Sunday that details about the winning ticket would be released Monday, declining to reveal where it had been purchased and whether anyone had immediately come forward. It was the sixth largest jackpot in history.

The numbers drawn were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. A lump sum payout would be $221 million.

Lottery officials said the 13 tickets worth $1 million apiece ? matching the first five numbers but missing the Powerball ? were sold in Arizona, Florida (2), Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina and Virginia.

Powerball said on its website that the grand prize jackpot has now been reset to an estimated $40 million or a lump sum cash amount estimated at $25 million for Wednesday's next drawing.

No one had won the Powerball jackpot since early February, when Dave Honeywell in Virginia bought the winning ticket and elected a cash lump sum for his $217 million jackpot.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever came in at $587.5 million in November. The winning numbers were picked on two different tickets ? one by a couple in Missouri and the other by an Arizona man ? and the jackpot was split.

Nebraska still holds the record for the largest Powerball jackpot won on a single ticket ? $365 million. That jackpot was won by eight workers at a Lincoln, Neb., meatpacking plant in February 2006.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The chance of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.

Powerball said on its website that the game is played every Wednesday and Saturday night when five white balls are drawn from a drum of 59 balls and one red ball is picked from a drum with 35 red balls. It added that winners of the Powerball jackpot can elect to be paid out over 29 years at a percentage set by the game's rules ? or in a lump sum cash payment.

U.S. wants swift transfer of Congo warlord

KIGALI (Reuters) - The United States is seeking the swift transfer of a Congolese warlord from its embassy in Rwanda to a war crimes tribunal for a trial that could help eastern Democratic Republic of Congo inch towards peace.

Bosco Ntaganda gave himself up to the U.S. Embassy in Kigali on Monday after a 15-year career that spanned a series of Rwandan-backed rebellions in eastern Congo.

He asked to be sent to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague where he faces war crimes charges.

Ntaganda's departure from the conflict zone, where he was a leading commander in the M23 group fighting Congolese forces, could improve prospects for stability in a region where vast mineral resources have fuelled two decades of conflict.

But the trial of Rwandan-born Ntaganda could also prove an embarrassment to the Rwandan government which has denied charges by a U.N. panel that accused it of backing the M23 rebels. The trial could take months or even longer to start.

"This is an opportunity to advance a little bit of peace and stability in the eastern Congo," Johnnie Carson, U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, told a conference call on Ntaganda's situation.

He also said Rwanda could use the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to a February deal signed in Addis Ababa that called for regional states to help end conflict in Congo.

He said the Rwandan government had offered "appropriate assurances" that it would not interfere in the process of transferring Ntaganda, who needs to be transported through the capital to the airport in coordination ICC authorities.

Speaking from Washington, Carson said he wanted Ntaganda moved "as quickly as possible" but did not give a precise timeline. Practical arrangements were still being worked out and ICC officials were heading to Rwanda to help with those logistics.

"The next 48 hours or so will be critical," he said.

OBSTACLE TO PEACE?

ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, speaking to reporters in Paris, said the court was working closely with those on the ground to ensure Ntaganda was transferred as quickly as possible.

"It's logistics now ... A couple of days," she said, adding that court procedures meant the start of the trial would take time. "I can't speak for the judges, but in my experience three months minimum."

Ntaganda faces charges of recruiting child soldiers, murder, ethnic persecution, sexual slavery and rape during the 2002-3 conflict in northeastern Congo's gold-mining Ituri district.

Ntaganda's whereabouts had been unknown after hundreds of his fighters fled into Rwanda or surrendered to U.N. peacekeepers at the weekend following their defeat by a rival faction of M23 rebels in the mineral-rich eastern Congo.

With an arrest warrant hanging over him, Ntaganda and his faction were seen as an obstacle to a peace deal between the M23 and the Congolese government. Jason Stearns of the Rift Valley Institute, a research body working in the region, said he might have feared being sold out.

But his decision to give himself up may improve the prospects for a deal that the M23 faction he opposed has shown signs of warming to.

Born in Rwanda, Ntaganda grew up in Congo before fighting alongside Rwandan Tutsi rebels who seized control of the small central Africa country, ending the 1994 genocide in which over 800,000 people died.

For Rwanda, the worries of being implicated by Ntaganda in any testimony when on trial may be outweighed by the desire to avoid being seen as a nation seeking to protect an ICC indictee.

"It's possible the Rwandans will be nervous about what he might say if he got on the stand in the Hague," said Ben Shepherd, an analyst at Chatham House, a London-based international affairs institute.

But Shepherd said the relationship between Ntaganda and Rwanda was ambiguous so Kigali might be confident it could avoid being implicated or might simply be hoping it would take years before he stood trial. ? Republicans must learn how to defeat Democratic senators with nominees that aren't pulled from the congressional delegation. Of the mere 6 Democrats who have lost since the '90s, 5 were knocked off by sitting or former GOP congressmen.

? Steve King's defenders say he's no Todd Akin, but his CPAC appearance likely did little to reassure Republicans who see another Senate race implosion brewing in Iowa. Global clean energy investment reached $250 bn in 2012

Mexico City, March 18

Global investment in clean energy climbed to a record $250 billion last year despite adverse worldwide economic conditions, the president of the International Solar Energy Society said in an interview in Mexico.

David Renee told EFE that although that figure is still small compared with total global energy investment, the amount spent on renewable energy technologies continues to grow every year and at a pace faster than that of traditional technologies.

He said the political will in favour of clean energy also is increasing steadily year after year, with around 116 countries now having specific objectives in the renewables sector, a significant advance relative to previous years.

Renewable energy is becoming more and more competitive vis-a-vis traditional energy sources due to the environmental costs associated with the latter, Renee added Friday.

The chief of the Germany-based ISES is in Mexico to promote the Solar World Congress 2013, which will run from Nov 3-7 in the southeastern resort city of Cancun under the theme "Renewable Energy for All".

The congress, held every two years since 1970, has never before been hosted by a Latin American country.

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (AP) ? Felix Neureuther of Germany edged overall World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher to win the men's season-ending slalom race on Sunday.

Neureuther hung on to his opening-leg lead to finish 0.36 seconds ahead of Austrian Hirscher in a two-run time of 1 minute, 52.20 seconds.

Hirscher already won the season-long slalom standings and ensured he finished on the podium in all nine World Cup races in the discipline.

"I'm happy with the whole season," said the 24-year-old Hirscher, who matched Alberto Tomba's record of top-3 finishes in a nine-race slalom program. The Italian great achieved it in the 1991-92 World Cup season.

Hirscher's dominating season in slalom included the world championships gold medal last month in Schladming, Austria.

Ivica Kostelic, the 2011 overall World Cup champion from Croatia, was third Sunday, trailing Neureuther by 0.51.

Neureuther, who limped off the course after crashing out in Saturday's giant slalom, got his second slalom victory of the season and finished second in the standings.

The podium placings were the same when Neureuther won in January at Wengen, Switzerland.

Hirscher added 80 World Cup points to complete his season with 1,535 overall. He had 180 more when he won the giant crystal globe trophy for the first time last season.

Ted Ligety of the United States placed third with a career-best total of 1,022.

The 28-year-old giant slalom specialist skied out midway through the first slalom run, one day after winning his sixth World Cup race this season.

"It's the story of my slalom season," said Ligety, who has targeted improved results in the most technical discipline to challenge Hirscher next year.

American teammate David Chodounsky also skied out as only 18 of 26 starters completed the first leg on a tricky snow surface.

The World Cup season ends with a women's giant slalom being completed later Sunday.

Why American men still choose to be priests

Half a world away from where Catholic cardinals gathered this week to elect Pope Francis, men who hope to do the daily work of the faith woke up at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in South Orange, N.J., and met for pre-sunrise prayers.

Fifty-seven aspiring priests from around the world live in the seminary on the campus of Seton Hall University. They will spend from six to eight years undergoing the process of formation before becoming full priests in the archdiocese of Newark, which has 238 parishes over four counties.

Afflicted by scandal and battling decreased enthusiasm in the United States and Europe, the church will rely on men such as these in coming decades to maintain the faith. The pope himself alluded the challenges on Friday, urging cardinals to never "give in to the pessimism, to that bitterness, that the devil places before us every day."

Danny Peterson, of Richmond, Va., knows most of his peers do not want to become men of the cloth. A surfer who studied international affairs, the 28-year-old used to pack an ice chest of beers for football games and concerts. No longer.

?I?m not going to see Pearl Jam anymore,? Peterson says. ?Those days are over.? Peterson sees himself in what he calls the ?John Paul II generation? ? a cohort of younger Catholics inspired by the charismatic deceased pontiff. At 14, he saw John Paul II at a World Youth Day celebration in Rome. He?s traveled all over the world, from Haiti to Ecuador to the Czech Republic. This winter, he sold his old surfboard for $400 to fund a ski trip ? a hefty sum considering he stretches out two stipends of $500 each year.

Becoming a priest was always on the table in his large Catholic family which includes five older brothers and sisters, Peterson said. His father briefly spent time in the seminary before meeting Peterson?s mother. His family has supported his choice, he said. He?s heard other reactions from friends, including: ?You?re an effing idiot.?

?It?s hard here,? Peterson said of the seminary life. ?We don?t have a lot of money. The room is the size of a closet. If I didn?t think I was called to do it I would have left already.?

The average age for new priests in 2012 was nearly 35, according to a review conducted by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University. Thirty percent of new priests were born outside the United States. More than half had more than two siblings.

American-born and opinionated, Peterson is one model for what the next wave of American priests may look like. Nelson Oyola, 31, is another.

Oyola?s day begins with a class quiz on the laws of the church. There are heads with more than a few gray hairs in his classes, and several Spanish speakers.

Oyola knew little English when he left his village outside Bogota, Colombia, nine years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a priest. Now, dressed all in black with a white roman collar that seminarians are allowed to wear only on campus, the soft-spoken student searches carefully for the right word.

?God was calling me to serve here,? Oyola says. ?It was something in me. I always saw myself celebrating Mass.? As with many priests, the voices of loved ones also helped when choosing a life that includes celibacy, little money, and late-night visits to hospital beds.

Encouraged by his grandmother and a young local priest named Father Julian, Oyola never felt that aspiring to become a priest was a strange ambition for a young man.

Oyola had five girlfriends in high school. It?s good for a priest to know what it?s like to be a in a relationship, he said. The last girlfriend broke up with him as they approached the age young people often marry in Colombia. She knew his heart was set on the priesthood.

The Spanish-speaking congregations he has met at churches like St. Francis de Sales in Lodi and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Jersey City remind Oyola of home. At one point recently, there were 15 Colombians among the seminarians in South Orange. Every time a new Colombian arrives, he is brought by the group to the Statue of Liberty, Oyola said.

Though it 'died' ages ago, Latin is all over Rome and the Catholic Church. A Latin scholar explains why the language is worth understanding.

That God has called him to serve so far away from home does not make leaving his parents and two older brothers in Colombia any easier: ?Every time the plane leaves, it feels like your heart stays on the ground.?

?That?s something that?s always on my mind,? Oyola said. ?What if I don?t get to spend any time with them any more?? When he saw his cousin?s newborn, he wondered what a baby of his own would look like. ?But I live with joy and no regrets,? Oyola said.

As the seminarians lined up to engage in a special vigil they held for as long as the conclave continued, they were aware that the church?s problems ? ongoing revelations of sex abuse, a top-secret dossier on corruption in the church ? would not go away with a new pope. The seminarians gathered around a big-screen TV to watch Pope Francis? first appearance on Wednesday, Peterson said.

?We used to say that Latin America was the hope for the Catholic church,? Oyola said. ?Now I realize that maybe we are not the hope anymore. We are the present.?

Thessaloniki Jews mark WWII Nazi deportation

THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) ? Jewish residents of this northern Greek city gathered Saturday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the roundup and deportation of this city's Jews to Nazi extermination camps in World War II.

Several hundred people gathered at the city's Eleftherias (Freedom) Square, where the first batch of Jews were rounded up by the occupying German forces on March 15, 1943.

The crowd held a moment of silence and then marched to the city's old railway station, where the first trains departed for the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp complex. A short ceremony was held at the station and flowers laid on the tracks.

Speakers included the city's mayor, Yannis Boutaris, and Holocaust survivors.

"The commemoration is an honor for the city of Thessaloniki. But some people look upon this era nostalgically and are bringing back the old Nazi symbols," said David Saltiel, leader of the city's Jewish community. He was referring to the emergence of the extreme right wing Golden Dawn, a party with neo-Nazi roots that swept into Parliament for the first time last June on an anti-immigrant platform.

On that day in March, 2,800 departed for the concentration camp.

"We were packed 80 to a train ... when we arrived, they sent a number straight to the crematoriums and kept some of us for work. We were beaten often by the guards," recalled Holocaust survivor Moshe Haelion.

Another survivor of the camps, Zana Santicario-Saatsoglou, described how, for many years, she was unable to tell her story. "My children used to ask me what that number on my arm was," she said, referring to the identification number tattooed on Auschwitz-Birkenau prisoners. "I told them it was my old phone number in Thessaloniki."

By August 1943, 46,091 Jews had been deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Of those, 1,950 survived. Fewer than 5,000 of the 80,000 Jews living in Greece survived. The majority, after returning from the camps, emigrated to Israel. Today, the Jewish community in Thessaloniki, which, until the early 20th century formed a slight majority of the city's inhabitants, numbers fewer than 1,000.

The Jews of Thessaloniki were mostly Sephardic Jews, who emigrated after 1492 to escape persecution from Spain which, in that year, had driven the Arabs out of the southern Iberian Peninsula.

Beginning soon, you may be able to charge your compatible smartphone at European McDonald's restaurants, too -- the food service giant's support comes courtesy of Helsinki-based PowerKiss, which is now ditching Qi in favor of the PMA. The move is arguably the Alliance's most significant to date, and it could bring confidence to organizations currently considering their own strategies.

It's unfortunate for consumers who may have recently invested in Qi, however -- popular wireless charging spots in major European train stations, for example, will be swapping out their infrastructure to support PMA. According to PowerKiss founder Maija Itkonen, the decision was based on the standard's new technology that enables individual charging sites to monitor usage trends and control consumption, along with significant support from companies throughout the industry. We've even heard speculation that Apple may soon announce support for the PMA standard, though we remain skeptical. Regardless, this is a major blow to Qi, though it could be a significant step forward for consumers -- that $99 Powermat charging set might seem a more-reasonable acquisition now.

She told Flores she had heard that Alexander had passed away and that there was a lot of blood at the crime scene. Asked about her relationship with Alexander, Arias said that they had not dated long. "We dated for like five months, and we broke up and actually did not see each other for quite a bit," Arias said.
