Google Play Store gets a new look
Google's content portal gets a lighter, brighter visual refresh
Following some recent leakage, it seems the new look Google Play Store app is finally official. Google has just announced that the new-look Play Store app will begin rolling out to Android devices today.
In today's announcement post on the official Android blog, Google says the new-look app is aimed to be "simple" and "clean," with a renewed focus on entertainment content. Based on the official promo images, that certainly seems to be the case -- Google Now-like greys and whites dominate the UI, while a lot of screen space is given to large images for music, movie and book content.
The purchasing process has also been streamlined, Google says, which hopefully means fewer taps to buy apps and other content through this new version of the store.
The new Google Play Store will begin pushing automatically to devices running Android 2.2 Froyo and above starting today, so keep a lookout in the hours ahead. In the meantime, hit the comments if you've managed to get it already.

While so-called hactivists have increasingly used the prominent brand of Anonymous to threaten Israel, yesterday?s performance suggests that they don?t always have the means to make as big a splash in cyberspace as promised.
?Sometimes they?re just really not as good as they say they are,? says Guy Mizrachi, CEO of the?Israeli data protection consultancy?Cyberia, of the weekend attack. ?It?s not a flop, but it?s far from taking Israel [off] the Internet.?
Various Anonymous channels broadcast word of the April 7 attack well in advance. Dubbed #opIsrael, it was billed as a continuation of a cyber campaign that started last fall during the conflict between Israel and Hamas-run Gaza. Typically Anonymous uses distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, in which certain websites are deliberately flooded with traffic, causing them to slow to a crawl or shut down altogether. Announcing such an attack ahead of time helps in marshaling the necessary forces from among Anonymous's loose confederation of activists to carry it out.?
Several Israeli government sites were reported to have been briefly shut down or defaced over the weekend, and an estimated 100 Israeli sites ? many run by small businesses that haven?t invested in cybersecurity software ? were also affected. In addition, hackers posted at least several thousand Israeli e-mail addresses and some credit card data, although it was unclear whether that personal information may have included some previously hacked data.
Freedom fighters?
Israeli officials and cybersecurity experts downplayed the impact of the April 7 #opIsrael attack, but many expect another assault in the future. Just how effective it is depends on who decides to join; the numerous activists operating under the anonymous label are relatively amorphous and have a range of skills.??
In recent years, particularly since the wave of Arab revolts across the region in 2011, Anonymous activists have increasingly aligned themselves with Arab or Muslim interests or taken direct action against Israel.
Some say that shows an anti-Zionist bias. But Gregg Housh, a Boston-based activist associated with Anonymous, says it?s a reflection of the group?s commitment to freedom rather than a certain political leaning among fellow activists. Anonymous events, he says, will draw everyone from devout Republicans to left-leaning Roman Catholics.
?[Anonymous] doesn?t care what you believe, you can believe that a ground hog is your god and your holy land is the Empire State Building. They just want everyone to be free,? says Mr. Housh.??To a lot of people in Anonymous, they see what?s happening to the Palestinians as a form of oppression.?
In?a statement?published Nov. 19, 2012, during the conflict between Israel and Hamas, Anonymous described itself as ?a world wide collective of individuals whose means pursue human rights, justice, and universal equality for the citizens of every nation,? it laid out its case for why Israeli policy in the Palestinian territories constitutes oppression.
?[Palestinians] have no navy, no army, or air force. There is no war in Gaza. There is only the continuous application of military force by Israel in an?attempt to push every last person out of the Palestinian state, despite international laws that make these efforts illegal.?
The statement did not mention the thousands of rockets that Gaza militants were sending into Israel, which spiked after Israel?s assassination of a top Hamas leader Nov. 14 and subsequent eight-day campaign of air strikes.
Since Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in 2007, Israel has used a combination of military pressure and an economic blockade to check the power of Hamas, which has not recognized Israel?s right to exist and is considered a terrorist organization by Israel and the West.
Symmetrical warfare
Cyber attacks are perhaps seen by Arab and Muslim groups as one way to level the playing field with Israel, whose military superiority over its neighbors has long been established. But Israel, one of the top nations in the global field of cyber security, can play that game as well.
Yesterday,?The Times of Israel reported, Israeli hackers brought down dozens of sites in Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, and North African countries, where the anti-Israel cyber attacks originated. In addition, the ?Israeli Elite Hackers? claimed to bring down the websites of Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad for several hours.
Meanwhile, LulzSec hackers ??who sometimes work in tandem with Anonymous initiatives ? targeted Palestinian Authority websites. They claimed to obtain?a gigabyte worth of documents.
?We r realy sorry for People of Palestine being fooled by scum that rules them,? read a message at the end of the announcement, accusing Palestinian leaders of conspiring with the US and Israel. ?Wake up people of Palestine it?s not about your land or religion ? its all about $...?

U.S. Secretary of State Kerry to visit Turkey
ANKARA (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Turkey on Sunday as part of a trip to Europe and Asia to consult allies on issues including Syria's civil war, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday.
Washington regards Turkey, which shares a 900-km (560-mile) border with Syria, as a pivotal player in backing the Syrian opposition and planning for an era after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
"The U.S. Secretary of State will be in Istanbul on Sunday and we will hold meetings to discuss various issues such as the Middle East peace process and the crisis in Syria," Davutoglu told a news conference.
A month ago, on his first visit to Turkey since taking office, Kerry criticized Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan for a comment likening Zionism to crimes against humanity, a spat that cast a shadow over talks between the NATO allies.
But a few weeks later, U.S. President Barack Obama brokered a tentative reconciliation between Turkey and Israel. Israel bowed to a long-standing demand by Ankara, once a close strategic partner, to formally apologies for the killing of nine Turkish citizens in a 2010 naval raid on a supply flotilla bound for Gaza.
The rapprochement between the two U.S. allies could help regional coordination to contain spillover from the Syrian civil war and ease Israel's diplomatic isolation in the Middle East as it faces challenges posed by Iran's nuclear program.
Davutoglu also said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would attend a conference in Turkey on April 17. Russia is an ally of Syria and opposes international efforts to oust Assad.

UK GameStick launch to be a GAME exclusive - Android - News ...
UK highstreet gaming retailer GAME has secured another exclusive Android gaming hardware launch for its stores in June. Late last week we reported that GAME would be launching the OUYA in the UK in June, with pre-orders available at ?99.99. Now it has been revealed that GAME will launch the GameStick console in June, it is available for pre-order on the GAME website for ?79.99.

Just like the OUYA console the dollar price seems to have been switched directly to pounds without any one bothering to whip out a calculator and mess around with exchange rates.
Last week we learned about several games which will come pre-installed on a new GameStick, including a third person shooter called Shadowgun. Also several more titles are lined up for the GameStick?s proprietary app store. GameInformer had a hands-on with a GameStick console at the GDC last week and I have embedded the official UI demo video below for your convenience. The interface looks like it works pretty slickly and the Riptide game in the video runs smoothly.

APAs he attempts to convince some NFL team to give him a shot at a comeback, Vince Young has admitted that he could have handled some things better in his career. But he says any talk that he lacks the work ethic and leadership qualities necessary to be an NFL quarterback is false.
Young said on ESPN that it frustrates him that people have accused him of laziness, because that couldn?t be further from the truth.
?You could never say that I wasn?t a hard worker, leading the team, doing all these things that they said I?m not doing,? Young said. ?And that?s what kills me when I?m out here working extremely hard every summer time and don?t get the opportunity to shine like most guys has had. I just want a lot of people to understand that I have been through a lot in my life, in my 29 years, and I have owned up to it. I?ve made my mistakes. But I just really feel like people can get past that and let me finish my career like I want it to be and be a great asset for a football team.?
The 29-year-old Young has undeniable talent and showed flashes of the ability to be a great quarterback during his time with the Titans. But he also had flashes of immaturity, and he failed to develop as a passer. After the Titans gave up on him, the Eagles kept him around for one year, and the Bills kept him around for one training camp.
If any team is going to give him a chance again, that team is going to have to be convinced that Young really is a hard worker who?s capable of leading an offense. And no matter how many times Young insists that he?s a hard worker and a leader, his reputation around the NFL precedes him.
